Woodcut Printmaking with Japanese Paper

woodcut print - student work smWoodcut Printmaking –printing a design carved in wood

In woodcut printing, the wood is carved away, leaving the design on the surface to be inked and printed. In this workshop, you will turn your own design, or a design or image of your choice, into a woodcut print.  You will learn use of the tools, carving techniques, application of black or coloured inks. Special to this workshop, you will print on beautiful and versatile Japanese paper. Japanese paper is a paper traditionally used for woodcut printmaking due to its ability to pick up subtle detail and nuance from the carved wood. Your prints will look beautiful on this tough, yet light-weight and delicate-looking paper! Non-toxic inks will be used.
