*NEW DATE Understanding Oil Paint with Lauchie Reid – A practical approach to methods and materials in professional oil painting

Saturday May 26th 2018
9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Price: $ 175.00 CAD

FULL DAY HANDS-ON WORKSHOP

In this workshop, Oil painter Lauchie Reid dispels the myths and misunderstandings surrounding oil paints and provides students with a simple and comprehensive knowledge base in supports, grounds, pigments, and varnishes and provides hands-on instruction in the fundamentals of paint making.

Students will leave armed with the knowledge it takes to make informed decisions about materials and the understanding of the primary practical concerns of the science and best practices in oil painting.

Lauchie Reid is a Toronto, Canada-based painter, illustrator, and educator. Focused primarily on portraiture, landscape, and still life, his work explores the role of traditional oil painting as a relevant and timeless method of celebrating human achievement while rejecting the notion of reserving these rites to specific social roles and classes.

The juxtapositions of historical technical processes against contemporary technology, outmoded aesthetics, a bizarre sense of humour, and a pleasantly melancholic view of the psychological and emotional underpinnings of nostalgia all play significant roles in his picture making practice.

Reid has exhibited as a founding member of Team Macho since 2005 in Friends for Life (June 2005), Team Macho is a Tough Man (May 2006), Fancy Action Now (May 2007), Kitschy, Gay, And Over In a Second (September 2008), Hibernation Sickness (Nov 2010) and AXIS MUNDI at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Canada (2012). Reid has exhibited his solo work with Narwhal Contemporary in Stay Gold (December 2008), Life Drawing (March 2009), That Hideous Strength (May 2010), The World Turned Upside Down (Oct 2011) and Hyacinths and Thistles(Sept 2014).

In early 2018, Natural Pigments announced Lauchie Reid’s appointment as its newest Artist Ambassador.  Lauchie Reid is a passionate painter and an advocate for best practices in painting – he is the perfect ambassador to talk about the role our products play in helping artists to achieve their best”, says George O’Hanlon. “We admire him for his principles, his talents and his ability to juggle a demanding career with being an educator.”
