Acrylic Gouache is a type of acrylic paint that has the appearance and texture of traditional gouache— opaque, matte and creamy. Unlike traditional gouache, Acrylic gouache is waterproof when dry, so you can effortlessly layer colours to create bold, bright and beautiful compositions.
This class will be an exploration of this fun new medium. We’ll cover how to control the ratio of water to paint to get exactly the effect you want, how to understand the nature of each different pigment, and how to mix custom colours and create swatches so you will be able to masterfully mix colour to create anything you can imagine. We’ll be painting patterns, plants, flowers and fowl while we work together to uncover all the secrets of Acrylic Gouache!
Materials not included – A list will be provided closer to the start date.
I’m Alanna and I’m an Illustrator.
I’m also a collector of cookbooks, mother to one fat cat, and cultivator of genius hair. I spend a fair amount of time scrubbing gouache off of my upper arms, even though I have absolutely no idea how it got there. I believe that talent is a myth that can stop us from pursuing our creative passions. I believe practice makes progress, and that perfection is imaginary (and boring to boot!). I believe in community and collaboration over competition, which is why I help run the Everyday Creatives, an online creative cooperative. I am also a big nerd for learning, I teach classes online through Skillshare (I’m one of their top teachers!).
