This is a day for building a Colour Wheel – along with several mixing charts – to keep as permanent reference material. Besides building the wheel, we’ll spend time on its interpretation and use, looking at complementary and analogous colours in their various applications. Emphasis will be on the “three dimensions of colour” and their role in making a picture. We’ll also explore lighting effects in painting, and compare the functions of tints, tones, and shades.
Although acrylic paint will be used in the workshop, the experience will benefit any painter who wants more out of colour. This will also provide an excellent starting point for beginners as an introduction to colour mixing and palette management.
