This introduction to the amazing colourful world of Soft Pastels will enable you to create any type of image you love to do.
Pastels are immediate, direct and yet can be extremely subtle. It is just as useful for realism as for abstract. If you love colour, pastels can carry you to new heights. Of course this workshop will also give you the opportunity to be introduced to concepts of drawing options, colour theory and composition.
Each week you will focus on a different genre to help you explore and discover what you like.
Day 1: Introduction to pastels and making each patch of colour luscious.
Day 2: Still Life: Being sensitive to light and shadows and composition with shapes
Day 3: Faces: What is of more universal interest than faces? Gary will share the experience of 50 years of doing portraits in pastels.
Day 4: Landscape: Urban or Nature as you wish. You will learn useful tips and shortcuts to make masterful Landscapes.
Please bring your own pastels and conte. These will be supplemented with additional pastels to share.
Pastel paper, tortillons and drawing boards will be supplied.
Imagery will be supplies for most exercises plus you are welcome to bring your own in case you prefer to ‘paint’ your own.
