ARTIST TALK & TEA tomorrow with Layne Hinton
Artist Talk: Saturday February 7th, 2pm
Please join us tomorrow afternoon at 2pm for an intimate artist talk & tea with Layne Hinton as she speaks with us about her practice and current exhibition Mesh Projections.
Mesh Projections combines elements of cinema, sculpture, and printmaking to explore notions of light and shadow and their relationships with presence and materiality. With a nod to the expanded cinema movement of the 1960’s and 70’s Hinton works with an analog aesthetic and technology, with architectural and formal considerations. The exhibition features a site-specific installation in the Earl Selkirk window accompanied by printmaking and sculptural works in the main gallery
LAYNE HINTON is a multi-disciplinary artist exploring installation, film/video, performance, sculpture, drawing, printmaking and collage. She was raised in a small family of artists in a converted church-house in the middle of nowhere surrounded by fields in rural Ontario; an upbringing which informs much of her work. Hinton holds a BFA from OCAD University in Integrated Media, with a minor in Printmaking. She has received awards including the InterAccess Media Arts Prize, OCADU Printmaking Award, OCADU Faculty Film/Video Scholarship, and O’Born Contemporary Best In Show for Romanticism Now. Hinton’s work has been shown at the Art Gallery of Ontario, YYZ Artist’s Outlet, O’Born Contemporary, Mono No Aware NYC, L’École des Beaux Arts Paris and the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg Russia. She recently completed a solo exhibition at InterAccess Electronic and Media Arts Centre and is co-curator of Art Spin in Toronto.
EXHIBITION RUNS January 19 – February 15, 2015
