MOKUHANGA: A BEGINNER’S MANUAL
In the past few decades mokuhanga, otherwise known as Japanese woodblock printmaking, has begun to attract artists worldwide for it’s unique aesthetic and creative potential.  Developed withing the Japanese colour print tradition of the 18th and 19th centuries, mokuhanga is notable for the use of water based pigments brushed onto the woodblock yeiling luminous, stain-like colour when printed on Japanese mulberry papers.
Artist, Elizabeth Forrest, creator of Mokuhanga: A Beginner’s Manual studied with master printers and carvers in Kyoto, Japan and is an internationally recognized print artist.  Over the past decade, Elizabeth has shared her love of mokuhanga, teaching numerous workshops in the Toronto area.  In this publication, Elizabeth’s drawings and descriptions elegantly lay out essential tools, materials and procedures for the novice.

Designed and printed at someone.ca in Toronto, Mokuhanga: A Beginner’s Manual is beautifully finished with a letterpress printed cover on adzuki red, textured paper.  The cover design is distinguished by the Japanese characters, “moku han” (woodprint), created by calligrapher, Noriko Maeda.

An edition of 500 has been printed              $15
Also available is a limited edition of 25        $60
